This baby Amazon was hatched this year, in April. It is weaned and although he’ll growl, he’s basically sweet. She had an eye injury when she was very young, no idea what happened, but the result is that one eye is not perfect. My vet believes the bird can see somewhat with that eye, and the other eye is perfect. Sometimes when babies are in the nest box and very wobbly, they fall over while they are learning to move around. This may have happened and the eye got scratched at that time.
The breeder held the baby back, and just recently asked me if I could find a good home for “Popeye”. (He/She came with the name.) I will send out DNA this week, so we’ll know definitively around the New Year if it’s a male or female. I am looking for a good home for this Amazon; one that will work with him/her daily out of the cage. Just in the short time I’ve had him/her, it has started to talk, “Hello”, “what are you doing?” and I hear the sweet voice working on a lot of other words and sounds, I’ve just not figured out what they are yet! I believe that this one will be a very good talker and a good pet as long as the prospective owner will put in time and effort. Price has been dropped accordingly due to the disabled eye.
