Catalina Americana (Meri)

DNA has come back on this one, and it is a little girl! She has a blue/green head so far with orange/dark orange patches on the sides of her face that are just starting to come in. Her chest has very dark orange starting to show now she is almost 8 weeks old.

This is the clutch-mate to the other Catalina baby, and it is hard to tell the difference right now, so we have to keep each one in their own labeled tub! I cannot wait to see the colors and see how much alike or different they are as they grow.

For these Catalina chicks, the Mama is the Scarlet, and the Father is the Blue & Gold. She was a pet, and she talks and sings with me when I feed her. The father is very protective, and as far as I know, was never a pet. They are both gorgeous birds. She has the very wide band of yellow, found on the Central American Scarlets, while the Blue and Gold has extra yellow feathers on both his shoulders where there normally are only blue feathers.
